Are you planning a Halloween party for later this month? Or maybe, you just want to make it a fun time for your family? Make some healthy treats with these ideas:
• Make a vegetable tray in the shape of a skeleton using different fresh vegetables like bell pepperstrips, carrots, broccoli, celery, jicama, cucumber slices.
• Make up your favorite guacamole and give it a different name like Monster dip for your vegetable tray.
• You can also try this pumpkin dip. Mix together ¼ cup canned pumpkin, 1 cup low-fat vanilla yogurt, 1 tablespoon orange juice concentrate and ½ teaspoon cinnamon.
• Try this Hallo-Been Salad for a colorful dish for the table. Drain and rinse one can of black beans, add one chopped orange bell pepper and ½ cup of jicama. Stir and add some vinaigrette salad dressing. Chill before serving. It’s Delicious
• Get everyone’s attention by making these “Eyeballs.” Slice a carrot into one-inch lengths and then top with some cream cheese and one-half of a pitted black olive.
• For dessert serve some fruit pops. Using a medium cookie scoop for dropping cookies cut out circles (1 inch deep) from peaches and apples. Make sure the bottom side is level so they will stand up when you add a stick in the middle. Dry the apple pieces and add peanut butter or almond butter around the slices of some of them and then add dip in crushed cereal or seeds. Place them on a plate as a fun dessert or a snack.
• Make some trail mix for your friends to take home as a party gift. A mixture of nuts, seeds (roasted pumpkin seeds), raisins or dried cranberries, and dried apricot pieces can keep the party theme going.
Enjoy the Fall season with healthy snacks and treats.
